Creamy pimiento cheese

Pimiento cheese was a staple growing up. We almost always had it in the fridge, especially during the summer. Pimiento cheese made a comeback a few years ago back into mainstream. There are so many recipes out there that include pimiento cheese – pimiento cheese deviled eggs, pimiento cheese twice-baked potatoes, pimiento cheese potato salad – the list goes on. And trust me, we’ve tried them all. But there is something special about classic pimiento cheese that just doesn’t convey into other recipes.

Southern Dill Pickle Martini

It’s 5 o’clock somewhere! Actually, it’s 5 o’clock here on the east coast so why not wind down on a Monday afternoon with a delicious adult beverage! Good day, bad day – this will do the trick :)

In the south, we love our pickles – and a good, stiff martini of course! We had long heard of restaurants that served a good dill pickle martini but we have never actually found one.

So, in true Southern Gay Gourmet style, we made a recipe of our own.

Marinated artichoke hearts

At work, I have a great cafe with an incredible salad bar. When I need a healthy snack, instead of reaching for a bag of chips or a brownie, I usually head to the salad bar and load up with a container of marinated artichoke hearts. I’ve always loved Greek salad and Mediterranean food in general, so these are always a go-to item for me.
Then I noticed that I’m paying almost $5 for a small container of them. I thought that there had to be a better way.

Let’s kick this off – Soulful Bacon Marmalade

To kick off the start of the Southern Gay Gourmet, we wanted to share one of our favorite recipes: bacon marmalade. This is something that can be served at any occasion – from a backyard BBQ to a sophisticated cocktail party.

 We first had bacon marmalade at a wonderful restaurant in Midtown Atlanta called Empire State South.  We DEFINITELY recommend this marmalade paired with a homemade pimiento cheese, on toasted baguette pieces! If you haven’t eaten there, you’re missing out. After searching online for copycat recipes, we finally just took the best parts of all the recipes we found and developed our own recipe.
