I’ve only met a few people from the South that have never heard of sausage balls. These were always available at every event when we were growing up – baby showers, weddings, funerals, church pot lucks – you name it.
This is another recipe using a few items that are usually around the house. After you make them once, you’ll probably turn into the person who makes them for every event :)
Prep time – 10 minutes
Cook time – 15 minutes, in batches
Dipping sauce recipe at the bottom of the page
Ingredients:
1 pound of breakfast sausage, any variety you prefer (hot, sage, etc)
2 cups of baking mix, such as Bisquick
2 cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese (freshly shredded incorporates better)
Preparation:
Mix all ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Using you hands is recommended!
Pinch off about a Tbsp. of mixture and roll it into a ball
Place the prepared balls on a baking sheet using 1/2 inch spacing
Bake in batches for 15 minutes or until tops brown
Let cool and dig in!
Dipping sauce:
Equal parts of yellow mustard and mayonnaise, mixed well.
***If you are feeling froggy, you can add a Tbsp. of cayenne pepper for some heat OR two Tbsp or two of breakfast syrup to the mixture for a sweet kick for a nice brunch.
